Doing business in Russia
Russian market represents potentially one of the greatest business opportunities
in Europe today.
Russia has extensive economic links with many countries.
Among the most significant trading partners of the Russian Federation are
European Union (about 40% of trade volumes), CIS countries (17% of trade volumes)
and Eastern European countries (12,6% of trade volumes). Russia imports
machinery, food, chemicals and pharmaceuticals and exports mainly oil, gas,
timber and other raw materials. Russia has steadily a positive trade balance.
At present, extensive negotiations are under way related to the requirements
Russia must comply with to join WTO. Russia works closely with OPEC on issues of
oil production. Within CIS there is an organisation of economic collaboration
called Eurasian Economic Union, members of which are Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan,
Tajikistan and Kyrgizstan.
